A listing of Norfolk Parishes having transcribed Parish Records and Monumental Inscriptions is available – [link to list of parishes]

The following is a list of all the records that are available to view on NORS:

• Banns, baptisms, burials and marriages transcribed from Norfolk Parish registers.
• Births and/or baptisms, burials and marriages transcribed from Norfolk Non-conformist church registers.
• Memorial Inscriptions recorded in Norfolk churches, graveyards, cemeteries and war memorials.
• Full details from birth, marriage and death certificates (BMDs) held in our collection.
• Strays – Norfolk people recorded out of the county.
• Norwich Birth returns from 1904.
• Norwich Death returns from 1894.
• Norwich Bomb victims in WW2.
• Wills – from copies held in our collection.
• Manors and Property - documents include manor court books, surveys, terriers, surrenders, admissions and deeds of enfranchisement, documents from the Inclosures, freehold conveyances, mortgages, leases, contracts and auction particulars - all from copies held in our collection or preserved for us at the Norfolk Record Office. 
• Miscellaneous Archive, diverse material from our collection.
• Family Trees donated by members to the Society and previously only available in Kirby Hall in hard copy or on the Kirby Hall server. Please see the guidance for submitting family trees to the Society on the Library / Family Trees tab on this website - If donors wish to have their trees removed at any time, please contact the Secretary c/o the Kirby Hall address.

Please note that reference to a record does not necessarily mean there is full coverage of all years for all types of transcripts for these parishes. This is an ongoing Society project and it is not possible to set an end date for completion.

It is recommended that before beginning a search of the NORS database, Society Members familiarise themselves with the User Guides and the Frequently Asked Questions, this will ensure best results are obtained.

A full search of the transcribed records and images held and uploaded to NORS by the Norfolk Family History Society is available to NFHS members only, however, non-members may search and view a list of those records that are currently available for viewing.

Quality of original records

Transcripts are made from handwritten and sometimes ancient, faded or damaged parish records; individual entries may be difficult to read leading to the transcriber making a best guess when either “BLANK?” or “?” is entered into the transcript (usually presented as “No Data”). Likewise monumental inscription wording may be damaged by weathering, algae, lichen or plant growth or just missing if stones have been broken. Whilst every effort is made to ensure accuracy of the NFHS transcripts, errors may occur, therefore transcripts should be regarded as a good resource to be confirmed by additional research.

Found an error in our NORS transcriptions?

If you think you have found an error in our record transcriptions, we would be pleased to receive the details so we can make any corrections. Please send an email to transcriptcheck@nfhs.co.uk providing as many details of the error as possible. Similarly any Monumental Inscription errors should be reported to minscriptions@nfhs.co.uk

Volunteers

We are reliant on volunteers to transcribe and check data, print the transcribed data, add the data to our electronic database held at Kirby Hall. We have roles available whether you are living locally or around the world. For more information click here.
